It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to properly welcome new branch members. But with COVID restrictions allowing, we held a ceremony this past weekend (15 Aug 2021) to formally welcome 11 new members. The weather was perfect, which made the day all the better. But there was so much more to celebrate!
It was also a thrill to welcome descendants of our first branch president, George Thomas. Here you can read more about George and our charter. Pictured in the gallery above you can see four generations of the Thomas Family, including George Thomas (the photo in the center), Craig Thomas (son), Angelica Thomas (grand daughter), and Craig and Liam Thomas (great-grand sons). It was amazing to welcome this family!
But there was still more to celebrate! Waterloo Oxford high school students Lauren Young and Bethany Austen were presented with awards for Remembrance Day poems they had written last year and submitted for a zone competition. They both read their poems to attendees, which was a somber reminder of sacrifice and our purpose as a branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Once again, welcome to all our new members and congratulations to our award winners!
